I was so excited when Naosheen reached out to me to photograph her 40th birthday celebration storytelling portraits. From creating her own costume and jewelry to carefully choosing the location, every detail of Naosheen’s session made it a photographer’s dream.


She came to the session with such a clear vision and beautiful sources of inspiration, and I absolutely loved bringing that vision to life with her. Her inspiration was Shakuntala, the beloved heroine of Kālidāsa’s Sanskrit play, who grew up surrounded by trees, flowers, birds, and deer in a peaceful forest hermitage. That connection to nature became such an important part of the story we wanted to tell through her portraits.


There was something so special about watching all of these elements come together — Naosheen’s handmade costume and jewelry, the natural setting, and her vision for embodying Shakuntala. Every detail felt intentional, personal, and deeply connected to the story she wanted to tell.



It was such a joy to photograph this chapter of her life and celebrate her 40th birthday through portraits that felt completely and beautifully her own.
